March Meeting

CRHA Niagara Division Members and Associates:

The weather seems to be reasonably agreeable, so no doubt we will have a blended meeting tomorrow night. We are always happy to meet in person, and always happy to see our more remote members join us on zoom, that has been running pretty good lately (thank you Gerald).

  1. You will have already received an email from Gerald indicating coordinates to log on to the ZOOM version of the meeting if you cannot make it in person. If you can make it in person, Lock 3 Museum, at 7 pm tomorrow, Wednesday.
  2. The meeting will be recorded and available to watch on-line for a period of 7 days. Peter Bowen et al take note.
  3. Secretary Doug has already sent out the minutes of the last meeting for review, so they will not be read at the meeting, but Doug will entertain changes if necessary before we vote on them.
  4. The minutes have been revised slightly thanks to remote (Arnprior – who would actually move there ??) Member David Bingham (PPFL). Thank you for your sharp eye. (a comma or period was left out)
  5. Bob M. and I had our usual monthly pre-meeting this morning, and please note – Bob tells us that we will start with Member’s Slides. The feature presentation will be by Keith Ballantyne, and we hope to have others with ALREADY ASSEMBLED IN A TRAY, slideshows that last about 15 minutes (OR LESS), to show off their wares. E-shows will follow the slides and word on the street is that we hope both Dean and Tammy have some of their neat and timely things to show. Shows are limited to 15 minutes or less please, to give everyone a chance.
  6. Thank you to Ron D., there will be a pre-meeting of the strategic minds at Ricki-Jo’s backroom at 5:15 pm. Do your best to eat, tell railfan lies, etc., pay your bill and be back at the Lock 3 Museum by 7 so we can start the meeting on time, as we have lots of shows.
  7. For those that come down this way to railfan before the dinner meeting, keep in mind that the canal is open as of a couple days ago, and raised bridges may already affect your travel plan timing.
  8. At 7 pm, we will have our AGM that encompasses our goings-on for 2024. This will be followed by our regular meeting at 7:06 PM.

Looking forward to seeing all and sundry tomorrow, one way or the other.

January Meeting

Wednesday January 29th we held another successful meeting including 30 or so in person and 6 via ZOOM. We elected a new slate of officers (see the Current Executive page), held a draw where we raised $40 dollars and saw some great slide presentations. The first was a presentation of slides brought by Keith Ballantyne and narrated by Paul Chapman. It featured a number of wonderful slides of Erie Lackawanna trains with some L&PS at the end for good measure. We saw digital presentations by Dean who had great shots from around southern Ontario, Glenn Cherry who showed some switching action in the Welland and Thorold areas, Gerald Arends who showed some photos that were shared on Facebook of a bad derailment in the 1970s at the Jordan bridge and lastly by Chris Paxton with several of old scanned slides from Fort Erie and Buffalo area taken in late 1976.

November’s Meeting

Last night marked the final regular meeting of 2024 with a good number in an attendance plus a number online. We were, once again, treated to top notch presentations by Glenn Cherry, Tammy Frakking, Dean Brown, Paul Chapman and Andy Panko. We are all looking forward to CRHA Niagara Christmas dinner, December 27th at George’s Greek village. Andy will be sending out more information on this as that date approaches. Our next regular meeting will be January 29th at the St. Catharines Museum, Lock 3.

November Meeting

Next Wednesday, November 27th is our final in-person meeting for 2024. Plan to attend as there will be some great presentations that you wan’t want to miss. See you at Lock 3 Museum @7pm November 27th.

Last Night’s Meeting

Last night was our October meeting which was well attended. It was great to see some new faces as well as some we haven’t seen in a while. We had some fabulous shows by Steve Armstrong and Andy Panko. We saw Steve’s slideshow featuring stunning photos of steam excursions from past decades. Andy shared a show of Reg Button’s historic photos of diesels and steam from a bygone era. Andy also reprised his Thorold hill show which was worth seeing again. In addition we had some great draw prizes including some from Scotty’s Tiny Railroads hobby shop. Gerald ran a book auction as well. We raised $120 from the draw and $45 from the book auction.
Looking forward to seeing many out for the historic rail sights rail tour hosted by Andy on November 14th and many more out for the next meeting November 27th.
